ICC Appeals Chamber to impose conditions on Laurent Gbagbo and Charles Blé Goudé upon their release following their acquittal

Today, 1st February 2019, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or "Court") decided unanimously that conditions are to be imposed on Mr Laurent Gbagbo and Mr Charles Blé Goudé upon their release to a State willing to accept them on its territory and willing and able to enforce the conditions set by the Appeals Chamber. These conditions are imposed to protect the integrity of the process. A written Judgment setting out these conditions will be made available later today.

ICC Trial Chamber I decides to release Laurent Gbagbo and Charles Blé Goudé following acquittal

Today, 16 January 2019, Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or "Court"), by majority, Judge Herrera Carbuccia dissenting, found that there were no exceptional circumstances preventing the release  of  Mr Laurent Gbagbo and Mr Charles Blé Goudé from ICC detention  following their acquittal yesterday.  The ICC Prosecutor may appeal this decision. It would be then for the Appeals Chamber to decide whether or not to maintain Mr Gbagbo and Mr Blé Goudé in ICC custody.

In a decision this morning, two of the three Judges of Trial Chamber I of the Court in the case against Messrs Laurent Gbagbo and Charles Blé Goudé, decided to acquit them of crimes against humanity we allege they committed based on the evidence my Office collected through its independent and objective investigations. The Judges have made their decision. The Prosecution has the right to appeal this decision.

This situation involved allegations of serious crimes under the Rome Statute committed in the Côte d'Ivoire.

ICC Trial Chamber I acquits Laurent Gbagbo and Charles Blé Goudé from all charges

Today, 15 January 2019, Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or "Court"), by majority, Judge Herrera Carbuccia dissenting, acquitted Mr Laurent Gbagbo and Mr Charles Blé Goudé from all charges of crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Côte d'Ivoire in 2010 and 2011. A fully reasoned decision will be issued in writing in due course. The Prosecutor may appeal the decision after the full decision is filed.

ICC Appeals Chamber directs Trial Chamber I to carry out a new review of Mr Gbagbo’s detention

Today, 19 July 2017, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (« ICC » or « Court ») delivered its judgment reversing a decision of Trial Chamber I and directing that Chamber to carry out a new review as to whether Mr Laurent Gbagbo should continue to be detained or should be released, with or without conditions. Until this matter has been so decided, Mr Gbagbo shall remain in detention.

ICC Appeals Chamber to deliver judgement on appeal against decision on Mr Gbagbo’s detention on 19 July 2017

On 19 July 2017, at 16:30 (The Hague local time), the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will deliver its judgement regarding the Defence's appeal against Trial Chamber I's "Decision on Mr Gbagbo's Detention" of 10 March 2017. The judgement will be delivered during a public hearing held at the seat of the ICC in The Hague, The Netherlands.

On 10 March 2017, Trial Chamber I decided that Mr Gbagbo shall remain in detention. The Defence appealed the decision on 20 March 2017.
