Today, 18 May 2020, Pre-Trial Chamber II of the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or "Court") issued its decision on 'Mr Jean-Pierre Bemba's claim for compensation and damages'. Mr Bemba was arrested in May 2008 following an ICC arrest warrant and was acquitted by the ICC Appeals Chamber on 8 June 2018.
I have taken note of the Prosecutor's statement issued 13 June 2018 in relation to the judgment of the Appeals Chamber in the Bemba Case.
Today, 8 June 2018, the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or "Court") decided, by majority, to acquit Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo from the charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Judge Christine Van den Wyngaert, Presiding Judge in this appeal, read a summary of the Judgment during a public hearing. Mr Bemba will remain in detention on account of another case in which he has been convicted of offences against the administration of justice, pending a decision of Trial Chamber VII in that case.
On 8 June 2018 at 16:00 (The Hague local time), the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will hold a public hearing in the case The Prosecutor v. Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo at the seat of the Court in The Hague (Netherlands) to deliver its judgments on the appeals against the verdict and the sentence in the case.
