ICC signs Memorandum of Understanding with Korea University

Today, 1 July 2024, the International Criminal Court ("ICC" or the "Court") and Korea University concluded a Memorandum of Understanding ("MoU"). The MoU aims to enhance the ICC's efforts to promote geographical representation of staff from under-represented and non-represented State Parties and increase cooperation through collaborative activities.

ICC President Tomoko Akane stated: "I am delighted to welcome Korea University as the third partner institution from Korea. Notably, this MoU was signed at the university level, rather than solely with the School of Law. This broader agreement aims to benefit students and graduates across multiple disciplines. With the expanded scope of the MoU, we hope to attract more talented young professionals from diverse backgrounds, not just those with a legal education."

San Kee Song, Vice President for International Affairs at Korea University, also commented on the partnership, saying: "I am honored to announce Korea University's new partnership with the International Criminal Court, making us the third institution from Korea to join this network. This comprehensive agreement is designed to provide opportunities for all students across various disciplines, ensuring that a diverse array of talented young professionals can participate fully in this new partnership."

The MoU establishes a cooperation framework between the ICC and Korea University to raise awareness about the ICC's mandate and activities, cultivate expertise, and facilitate knowledge exchange by participating in the ICC's internship and visiting professional programs.

Korea University, established in 1905, is one of South Korea's oldest universities with a diverse student body consisting of over 20,000 undergraduate students and over 10,000 graduate students. The university is renowned for its strong commitment to research, innovation, and global engagement.
