Liechtenstein to hold Presidency of the Assembly of States Parties

At the 6th meeting, on 13 December 2007, of the sixth session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (“the Assembly”), the Assembly elected Mr. Christian Wenaweser of Liechtenstein President of the Assembly for the seventh to ninth sessions.

The newly elected President of the Assembly, who will assume his post as of the seventh session of the Assembly in November 2008, has served as Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein to the United Nations since 2002 and has been working on issues related to the United Nations for more than fifteen years.

As a member of Liechtenstein’s delegation to the 1998 United Nations Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the establishment of an International Criminal Court, Mr. Wenaweser was actively involved in drafting the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. In September 2003, he was designated as Chairman of the Special Working Group on the Crime of Aggression.

Mr. Wenaweser has done studies at Zurich University, the Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften and the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales.
